The approach

The people who tell me they’re awkward in front of a camera usually aren’t. It’s the quiet ones who don’t mention it. They’re the ones who need the help.

So I ask how you’re comfortable standing. Most people have an answer even if they don’t think they do. I’d rather build from something you already do than put you in a pose that was never yours — I once asked a man to adjust his collar and he had no idea what I meant. He doesn’t wear collars. That’s my mistake, not his.

There are shots I won’t take. Bad angles on elbows. Anything unflattering from a seated position. You won’t have to sort past them, because they won’t be in your gallery.
